Interview tips to success

If you are shortlisted for the interview you will have already gone through an incredibly competitive process, here your interviewer wants to learn more about your background and personal experiences to see how and where you might fit-in at their company. They would like to hear about your experience of leading and making an impact in any field.

1) Study the company

     Visit the company website, use social Media platforms and study about the company, it is a very good to go through about the company details in depth. There is a high chance for interviewers to ask questions like,

  • “What you know about our company?”
  • “What is our company’s mission and vision?”
  • “Why do you want to work for us?”

Be prepared for these kinds of questions. Failing to answer them will affect your interview. The more research you conduct, the more you’ll understand the employer, and the better you’ll be able to answer interview questions 

2) Practice -Rehearse

Visualize and Practice answers to the important interview questions for your field, Rehearse in front of a mirror about behavioral questions. Your answer should match for the skills and behaviors what the employer is looking for. Find examples from your own CV that you think will demonstrate a good match for the role. Don’t keep referring the same experience, always keep few good examples that you can adapt according to the different questions. The more you practice, the more comfortable you will be.

  • “Tell me about a time when you were faced with a stressful situation and how you handled it.”
  • “Tell me about your greatest career achievement”
  • “Describe a time when a member of your team was under-performing. What did you do?”
  • “Tell me about how you worked effectively under pressure”
  • “What do you do if you disagree with a co-worker?”
  • “What do you do if you disagree with your boss?”
  • “What’s your greatest weakness?”

3) Be honest

    “Honesty is the highest form of intimacy” It is important to present yourself in the best way possible, avoid lying.

4) Be punctual

“Punctuality is the soul of business”, being late for the interview can be an indication that you don’t pay attention to important details. Punctuality displays a person’s respect for people and time. Give yourself ample time to reach the location. Rushing will affect your interview performance.

5) Appearance

“First impression is the best impression”. The first thing the interviewer will notice is your appearance, so dress professionally, pay attention to grooming, colors and accessories.

6) Body language

  •         Always keep your head high
  •        Stand / Sit Straight
  •        Make Eye contact
  •        hold a slight smile
  •        Firm Handshake

Avoid arrogance, week handshake and bad posture, playing with your pen or hair.

7) Ask questions

At the end of the interview you will get an opportunity to ask questions. You must prepare at least 2-3 questions that demonstrate your interest in the position, avoid “YES” or “NO”

  •         Can you explain me the daily responsibilities of this position?
  •        Is this a new role that has been created?
  •        What are the performance expectations of this position?
  •         Who will I work with most closely?
  •        Who will I report to directly?
  •         Where do you see this company in the next few years?
  •         What are the next steps in the interview process?.
